AW: Familienname QUAASS / KWAS / Quassowski in GISCHKAU oder Praust

I'm very pleased to hear from you. You may write in English, even if my English is not so good. It's interesting to know, that there are people called "Quaass" in Australia. In which town / region do you live?
Until the thread about "Quaass" I had never heart about people with "double-a" in the name. I don't know, if there is a connection between your "Quaass" and our "Quass, Quaß, Quassowski, Quasowski" and so on. Our family in former times was named Quaß or Kwas (ß = the German letter called s-z). It derives from the Slavic word "kwas" that means any kind of "sour" or especially "sourdough". The clerks of the parish registers changed the writing from Slavic "kwas" to latin "quass". But they made some mistakes and so there exist some other writings, too.
Can you tell me more about your family and your ancestors? When did they come to Australia? Of which religion they were / you are? Perhaps together we can find out a little bit more about your ancestors!
